What is Production?

Production, with the literal meaning of "manufacturing" or "production," refers to the process of shooting and preparing various digital recordings, such as videos, photos, and similar content. It is divided into three stages: pre-production, production, and post-production.

Pre-Production

The initial stage is essentially the planning phase. During this process, information is gathered from the client about the desired content, and the location, timing, and method of shooting the digital recording are planned. The concept, script, and actors of the content to be captured are also determined at this stage.

The existence of pre-production is highly important for the smooth progression of the subsequent stages. Production is like construction, and without this foundational stage, issues can easily arise in the future.

Production

This stage is the time when the actual production or shooting takes place. "Field" shots, which include outdoor shoots, and studio shots are carried out. It is crucial to pay attention to camera settings, sound, lighting, and similar factors. As production is a stage that cannot be rectified if it goes wrong, backup recordings should always be taken, and work should be carried out in a controlled and meticulous manner.

Post-Production

Post-production is the stage where the produced digital recording is edited and its final version is created. Sound effects, music, graphics and visual effects, color correction and editing, sound correction and sound design are prepared and added to the project. Many editing programs such as Premiere Pro, Davinci Resolve, and Final Cut are used in this stage. After the initial editing, revisions are made, and editing is done again. This process continues until the final content reaches the desired format.

How Should Clients Make Decisions About Video or Photo Content?

When making a request for video content, you have the option to leave all or most decisions to the production team. However, if you have a specific type of content in mind, there are details you need to communicate to the production team.

First and foremost, the script is essential. Your script doesn't have to be fully detailed down to the smallest detail. "A short journey of someone" is also a script.

It's important to specify the platform on which you intend to use this recording in video content. This is because an Instagram video is shot in a 9:16 ratio, while a YouTube video should be shot in a 16:9 ratio. This difference determines whether the camera will be held horizontally or vertically.

For photo content, providing example photos is always helpful. If you prefer not to do this, specifying the desired photo aesthetics to the production team will be beneficial for both sides. In other words, you can specify whether there will be a model in the photo and, if so, how you want that model to behave.

During the post-production stage, you can specify whether you want your video to be more dynamic or formal, colorful and vibrant, or calm-toned. These decisions will affect many aspects, from the video's music to its editing styles and color tones.
